BETHANY, W. Va.—The Pioneers' offense exploded for a 15-3 win over Bethany College Saturday picking up their first win as a member of the Ohio River Lacrosse Conference.
"This was a great team victory," head coach Terry Justice said. "The boys came out together from the opening faceoff."
Transylvania opened with a goal less than three minutes into play on Roby's first goal of the day, before Watts added a goal near midway through the first quarter to give the Pioneers a 2-0 lead. The Pioneers added five goals in the second half to build a commanding 7-0 lead at the half.
The Pioneers' continued in the second half adding eight more goals on their way to a decisive 15-3 win.
Alex Nugent added an acrobatic goal with 3:44 left to play to seal the win for the Pioneers, before Roby added his fourth and final goal with 1:38 left in regulation.
The Pioneers were nearly perfect on clear attempts converting 24-of-25 and tallied 35 shots, while holding Bethany to 16.
"We are still a work in progress and need to learn the lessons that led to the victory today," Justice said.
Transylvania returns to action Wednesday against Elmhurst at Pat Deacon Stadium. Wednesday's game is scheduled for 5 p.m. Live stats and live video available here.
