Lexington, Ky. – The Transylvania men's lacrosse team picked up a convincing 15-7 victory over the Wittenberg University Tigers at Pat Deacon Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The victory improves Transylvania's record to 2-1 overall and marks the first win in program history for the Pioneers over the Tigers.
Offensively, the Pioneers were led by Trenton Sneed, who scored a career-high five goals and tallied an assist for a total of six points in the Transylvania victory. Also recording multi-goal games for the Pioneers were Bryce Lowe, Quinn Fox, and Corbyn Buchart.
Transylvania opened the game with three straight goals from Fox, Lowe, and Kayd Aquino. Then, following a Wittenberg goal, Sneed scored a pair of goals to push the Pioneers' lead to 5-1 early in the second quarter.
Transylvania and Wittenberg exchanged goals throughout the second quarter, allowing the Pioneers to take an 8-4 lead into the locker room at the halftime intermission.
The Pioneers took control of the game in the third quarter by outscoring the Tigers, 5-3 in the period. The quarter was highlighted by a goal from Fox off a setup pass from Jack Stevenson less than ten seconds before the buzzer sounded.
Sneed added two more goals in the fourth quarter as the Pioneers cruised to the 15-7 victory.
On the defensive end of the field, T.J. Toivonen dominated throughout the afternoon. The junior scooped up 10 ground balls, caused three turnovers, and scored a goal as the Pioneers' defense allowed just 15 shots on goal by the Tigers.
