Lexington, Ky. - Transylvania men's lacrosse face-off midfielder Kris Stone has been selected as the Heartland Collegiate Men's Lacrosse Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
In a Monday release by the conference, Stone, a junior from Louisville, Kentucky (Male HS), captured the award after leading the Pioneers to a 2-0 record in HCLC play this past week.
The junior midfielder set a new Transylvania program record with 17 ground balls in a 26-0 victory over HCLC opponent Earlham last Wednesday. His 17 ground balls eclipsed the old single-game record by three as he led the Pioneers to their first shutout in nearly a year and the first of this season. Stone was also 30-for-43 on face-offs as he aided the Pioneers in dominating possession.
For the week, Stone finished with 19 ground balls as the Pioneers outscored HCLC opponents 51-3 and stayed undefeated in conference at 7-0.
The player of the week award is the first of Stone’s career and the fifth earned by a Transylvania men’s lacrosse player this season.
Stone and the Pioneers will be back in action on Saturday, April 27 when they travel to Hanover, Indiana to take on the Hanover College Panthers. The game is set for a 1:00 p.m. start at Alumni Stadium.
