Carmel, Ind. – Transylvania men's soccer senior goalkeeper Drew Grisham has been awarded the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference's Defensive Player of the Week award for the week ending October 6, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Grisham, a senior from Mason, Ohio (Mason HS) anchored a stout defensive effort that led to a 1-0 start in conference play this past week as the Pioneers defeated Anderson University 4-0 last Saturday.
In one of Transylvania's most potent offensive outputs of the season, Grisham provided consistent security on the other end of the field in recording his third clean sheet of the season.
The senior collected seven saves on all seven shots he faced versus the Ravens while making a collection of acrobatic saves; Grisham made two spectacular diving stops in the first half to hold the Ravens at bay while the Pioneers assembled their lead. Grisham now ranks third in the HCAC with 41 saves on the season.
This is the first player of the week award earned by Grisham and the first won by a Transylvania men's soccer player this season. It is the fourth conference player of the week award of Grisham's career.
Grisham and the Pioneers return to play this Wednesday, October 9 as they host conference foe Earlham College to Lexington. The HCAC match is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start from Pat Deacon Stadium.
