Lexington, Ky. – The Transylvania men's tennis team ushered in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference portion of its season with a 9-0 defeat to the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Fightin' Engineers on Saturday afternoon at Spindletop Hall.
Taking on the defending conference champion on Saturday afternoon, the Pioneers experienced the best the Engineers had to offer as the visitors swept all three doubles matches to coast into the singles portion of the afternoon on a high note.
In the No. 1 doubles match, the duo of seniors Luke Groene and Eric Sandknop were defeated by Cam Metzger and Andre Adam 8-1. Rose-Hulman took 8-0 victories in both No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches to assert themselves midway through the match.
The Engineers continued to enjoy success as they picked up straight-set victories against the Pioneers in all six singles matches to complete the trek to Lexington.
Transylvania resumes its schedule on Wednesday, April 4 as it visits HCAC rival Mount St. Joseph University in Cincinnati, Ohio. The match is scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. start.
