Nicholasville, Ky. – Thanks to a strong performance in singles competition, the Transylvania men's tennis team rolled to a 6-3 team victory over the Defiance College Yellow Jackets at the Top Seed Tennis Club on Saturday morning.
With the win, the Pioneers' record climbs to 3-7 overall and 2-2 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 3-15 overall and 1-4 in the HCAC.
Transylvania fell behind 2-1 after the doubles portion of the match, with the Pioneers' lone win coming in No. 3 doubles as sophomore Edis Sinanovic and senior J.T. Henderson teamed up to claim an 8-0 decision.
With the lead in hand, Transylvania senior Eric Sandknop earned a hard-fought 6-4, 6-4 victory in the No. 3 singles matchup.
The Pioneers wrapped up the 6-3 victory with a pair wins from Sinanovic and Henderson at No. 5 and No. 6 singles respectively.
Transylvania second-year head coach Kevin Calhoun was pleased with the way his team performed on Saturday. "I'm really happy for the guys today," said Calhoun. "Credit to Defiance, they played the doubles really well. My team responded well to that and played the singles with a tough mindset. It was a total team win and we are ready to keep this going."
The Pioneers return to action on Thursday, April 26 when they travel to Richmond, Indiana for an HCAC matchup with the Earlham College Quakers. The match is set for a 4:00 p.m. start at the EC Tennis Courts.
