Greenwood, Ind. – Transylvania track and field seniors Jordin Fender and Cole Green have each been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's and Men's Track Athlete of the week, respectively for the week ending February 12.
Fender and Green, the reigning HCAC Indoor Track Athletes of the Year for women and men's track had productive displays at Saturday's Depauw Indoor Invitational in Greencastle, Indiana.
With the Depauw event serving as the final meet before the impending 2017 HCAC Indoor Track and Field Championships, Fender and Green used the event to sharpen their skills and shined brightly last weekend.
Fender (Lexington, Ky. / Dunbar HS) competed in the women's 60 meter hurdles event and took first place in the race, crossing the line in 9.05 seconds. That mark served as a new school record and personal best for Fender, as well as the new meet record.
Green (Oak Ridge, Tenn. / Oak Ridge HS) recorded his season-best time in the men's 200-meter dash event at Depauw. Green's time of 22.54 was good enough for second-place in the 200 meters, outpacing all other Division III athletes in the race. Green followed up that performance with a top-three finish in the men's 60 meters, timing at 7.05 seconds.
The Track Athlete of the Week award is the second of the season for Fender and first of the 2017 season for Green. This marks the third time that Fender has won an HCAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week award for indoor track in her career. It is also the third time in Green's career that the sprinter has captured an HCAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week award for the indoor circuit, and the fifth of his career overall.
Green, Fender, and the Pioneers gear up for the HCAC Indoor Track and Field Championships on the campus of Rose-Hulman on Saturday, February 18 in Terre Haute, Indiana.
