Greenwood, Ind. – Transylvania track and field seniors Cole Green and Jordin Fender have been respectively named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Track Athletes of the Week for March 27.
Green and Fender each won multiple events on their home turf at last Saturday's Pioneer Invitational, the home track and field event for 2017 at Pat Deacon Stadium.
Both seniors, Green and Fender completed their last appearances in front of their hometown fans on a high note.
Green, a senior from Oak Ridge, Tennessee (Oak Ridge HS), took first place in the men's 100 and 200-meter races last Saturday. Green won the 100 meters in 11.22 seconds and the 200 meters in 22.04 seconds.
Fender, a senior from Lexington, Kentucky (Dunbar HS) grabbed three victories on Saturday. Fender captured victory in the women's 100 meter hurdles, crossing the line in 15.40 seconds against a heavy current of stadium wind.
Fender followed up that win with a victory in the women's 200 meters with a 26.87 seconds finish. The senior capped off her day with a victory in the women's 4 x 100 meter relay; Fender served as the second leg as the Pioneers won in 51.08 seconds.
This is the second consecutive week that Fender has been selected as the women's track athlete of the week, and the fourth time overall including her 2017 indoor conference season.
The award is the second of the overall 2017 season for Green, and his first outdoor track athlete of the week accolade this spring.
Green and Fender are also the defending HCAC Outdoor Track Athletes of the Year after winning the same events at last season's outdoor conference championships.
Both athletes will be back in action along with the Transylvania track and field team at this Saturday's Hanover Invitational in Hanover, Indiana, beginning at 11:00 a.m.
