Seguin, Texas – The No. 24 Transylvania softball team wrapped up their spring break journey to Texas with a pair of losses to the Texas Lutheran University Bulldogs at Ed Kruse Stadium on Friday afternoon.
The Pioneers fell to the Bulldogs by the final score of 11-3 in six innings in game one before dropping game two by the final score of 9-1 in five innings.
In game one, Transylvania jumped out to a 3-0 lead over Texas Lutheran in the top of the first inning as Meg Liter recorded a two-RBI double. Later in the inning Liter was driven in by Janelle Hynes for the third run of the inning.
Neither team was able to score over the next two innings before the bats came to life for the Bulldogs as the home team scored four runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth to take a 6-3 lead over the Pioneers.
Texas Lutheran went on to score five additional runs in the sixth for the 11-3 final.
Kameron Bowling picked up the loss in the circle for Transylvania, giving up 11 hits and five earned runs while recording one strikeout in 4.2 innings of work.
Game two followed a similar theme as the Bulldog offense continued to churn effectively.
The Bulldogs tacked on two more runs in the fifth inning to take a 9-1 victory in five innings.
Jessica Gunter earned the loss for Transylvania, yielding 10 hits and six earned runs in 3.1 innings of work.
The Pioneers' record falls to 6-6 on the season while Texas Lutheran's record improves to 12-4 overall.
Transylvania will now return to Kentucky to host the Wittenberg University Tigers for a doubleheader on Sunday, March 24. First pitch of game one is set for 1:00 p.m. at Hall Field.
