Transylvania women tip-off home play in Pat Deacon Classic

Pat Deacon Tournament Bracket

Lexington, Ky. – The Transylvania women's basketball team prepares to open up the home portion of its 2017-2018 season schedule this weekend in the two-day 2017 Pat Deacon Classic at the Beck Center on Saturday and Sunday, November 25-26.

The eighth-annual classic, named for Transylvania's long-time legendary multisport head coach Pat Deacon, will feature the Maryville College Scots, the Westminster (Mo.) College Blue Jays, and the Otterbein University Cardinals.

The host Pioneers, led by fourth-year head coach Juli Fulks, will highlight the weekend's field of teams. Transylvania enters the weekend 0-1 in its young season after dropping the season opener on the road last Sunday, a 70-67 defeat to Marietta College.

The Pioneers will seek their first victory of the year against Marietta's Ohio Athletic Conference peers, the Otterbein Cardinals.

Saturday's Day 1 doubleheader action tips off with a matchup between Westminster and Maryville at 4:00 p.m. That game will be followed by the nightcap as Transylvania plays host to Otterbein at 6:00 p.m.

The losers of Saturday's contests will face each other in Sunday's consolation game at 1:00 p.m., followed by the Pat Deacon Classic Championship game, immediately following at 3:00 p.m. Sunday.

Admission for the tournament is $7 per day for adults and $5 for students. Two-day passes to the Classic are available for $10 per person. All games will be streamed live on the Transy Sports Network, accessible via the Tournament Central link as well as the women's basketball schedule page. Live Stats during gameplay are also available at those corresponding links.

The tournament is named for Pat Deacon, one of Transylvania University's legendary figures. Deacon coached multiple sports at Transylvania University, most notably the women's basketball team from 1971 through 1987, and field hockey from 1971 until 1999. Inducted into the 2000 class of the Pioneer Hall of Fame, Deacon also served as an administrator within the Transylvania Athletic Department and was a key figure in the growth of women's sports at Transylvania.
