Cincinnati, Ohio – Veteran guards Shelby Boyle and Celia Kline each scored 15 points and the No. 21 Transylvania women's basketball team grew its win streak to 15 straight games with a 69-49 victory over the Mount St. Joseph University Lions at the Harrington Center on Wednesday night.
The win improves Transylvania's record to 20-2 overall and 14-1 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play with just three games remaining in the regular season. With the loss, Mount St. Joseph's record falls to 12-10 overall and 7-8 in league play.
Boyle fell just short of her sixth double-double of the season with a 15-point, nine-rebound performance while Kline stuffed the stat sheet to the tune of 15 points, six rebounds, four assists, two steals, and two blocks. Junior guard Ashton Woodard also hit double figures for the Pioneers with 12 points in the victory.
Transylvania wasted little time in taking control of the game: led by seven points from Boyle, the Pioneers jumped out to an 18-12 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Pioneers turned up the defensive pressure in the second quarter, holding the Lions to just 27 percent shooting from the field, allowing Transylvania to take a 39-25 lead into the halftime break.
Transylvania came out of the locker room intent on putting the game away for good. A 7-0 run pushed the Pioneers' lead out to 46-25 just over three minutes into the second half.
The Pioneers continued to roll in the fourth quarter, building their lead to the largest of the night at 67-36 after a deep three-point basket from Kline.
For the game, Transylvania shot 43 percent from the field while holding the Lions to just 29 percent. The Pioneers also held a 32-15 advantage in points in the paint over Mount St. Joseph.
Up next for the Transylvania is a home matchup with the Defiance College Yellow Jackets on Saturday, February 9. The game is set for a 1:00 p.m. start at the Beck Center. Prior to tip-off, the Pioneers will recognize their five seniors in a pregame Senior Day ceremony.
