Transylvania women’s golf wraps up early week at Callaway as rainout prevails over second round

After round 1

Pine Mountain, Ga. – The Transylvania women's golf team began their spring season with a quick trip to the Callaway Gardens Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, March 5-6 at the Lake View Golf Club.

The Transylvania shot a team score of 325 in Monday's first round competition to finish 33-over par, good for ninth place amidst a field of 14 competing teams.

Two-time Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Golfer of the Year, junior Meredith Moir, and sophomore Rachel Fine each paced the Pioneers with a six-over par 79.

Sophomore Lexie Lamar picked up from her strong finish to the fall season by delivering an eight-over par 81, cupping a team-best three birdies in the process.

Sophomore Rebecca Fine finished with a 13-over par 86, and junior Jenna Soderling scored an 87 to round out the group of five.

Tuesday's second round action at Lake View was delayed by rain and eventually called off due to incessant storm patterns, forcing the end of the competition as the first round scores represented the entirety of the weekend's scoring.

The Transylvania women's golf team is next in action on March 16 as they venture to the three-round Jekyll Island Women's Collegiate Invitational at the Jekyll Island Golf Club in Jekyll Island, Georgia.
