Women’s Lacrosse grows winning streak to eight games with 20-goal win at Waynesburg

Waynesburg, Pa. – The day belonged to the Transylvania women's lacrosse team, taking a dominating 20-3 win against the Waynesburg University Yellow Jackets Saturday afternoon at Waynesburg Central High School.

The Pioneers blanked the Yellow Jackets in the first half, outscoring the hosts 14 to 0 to put the game out of reach. Transylvania seized control of the contest before the Yellow Jackets could blink, accumulating a 7-0 lead before the first eight minutes of the first half had elapsed.

Sophomore attack Alexis Rubin issued the first goal of the day 1:12 into the game to gather the first of her three goals. Along with Rubin, two other Pioneers scored hat-tricks in the one-sided affair.

Junior midfielder Julia Ward led the Pioneers with a game-high four goals as she picked up a hat-trick before the halftime intermission. Sophomore midfielder Emma Oliver was the other Pioneers to register a three-goal performance, scoring two of her three goals on free-position shots.

Four other Pioneers enjoyed multi-goal games, as Freshman Katie Smith, Harper Zeitz, Hannah Fouts, and sophomore Bailee Stevens each scored twice.

Sophomore goalie Mackenzie Dent got the win, registering four saves and a team-high four ground balls. The Pioneers secured a sweltering 22 draw controls to two for Waynesburg, maintaining a chokehold on the game of possession all afternoon. Stevens and Zeitz each led the way with five draw controls apiece.

With the victory, the Pioneers improved to 9-1 overall, and 4-0 in Ohio River Women's Lacrosse Conference play. The win also saw the Pios extend their season-high winning streak to eight games.

Transylvania will quickly turnaround for a key showdown with last year's reigning conference champions, the Washington & Jefferson College Presidents in Washington, Pennsylvania. That contest is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
