New Wilmington, Pa. – Transylvania women's lacrosse freshman midfielder Rachel Johnston has been selected as the Ohio River Women's Lacrosse Conference Offensive Player of the Week for Week 1 of the 2018 season, the conference announced Monday.
Johnston, a freshman from Franklin, Tennessee (Franklin HS) burst onto the scene for the Transylvania women's lacrosse team in its first three games of the 2018 campaign. In the February 24 season opener against Muskingum University, Johnston amassed five goals, one assist, two ground balls, five draw controls, and two caused turnovers in a 21-1 win.
Johnston followed up that performance with a four-goal, three-assist performance on February 25 against Otterbein University in a 20-10 victory for the Pioneers. Johnston added six draw controls in that performance.
On March 1, Johnston had her third-consecutive hat-trick to begin her career in a 15-11 loss against Wittenberg. Johnston added an all-around performance against Wittenberg, supplying three ground balls and three draw controls.
The freshman now has 12 goals, four assists, and 16 points through three games, which leads the ORLC in all categories.
This is the first ORLC Player of the Week award for Johnston and the first for a Transylvania women's lacrosse player in the 2018 season.
Johnston and the Pioneers return to action on Wednesday, March 7 as they visit Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
