Gulf Breeze, Fla. – The Transylvania women's lacrosse team enjoyed a balanced team performance and an offensively dominant afternoon in defeating the Huntingdon College Hawks, 21-1 at Gulf Breeze High School on Tuesday.
Playing in their second game of their three-game spring break trip away from Lexington and first of two in the state of Florida, the Pioneers powered past Huntingdon by scoring the first 14 goals of the game before the Hawks got on the scoreboard with seconds to go before the half.
The Pioneers shut out Huntingdon in the second half on the way to scoring seven more goals, bringing their record to 5-1 on the season.
Nine different Pioneers enjoyed multiple-goal games in Tuesday's win, led by sophomore midfielder Katie Smith, who registered a hat-trick to go with three assists, three ground balls, and one caused turnover.
Junior midfielder Emma Oliver joined in with a hat-trick of her own while leading the team with five ground balls on the day.
Junior goalie Mackenzie Dent collected three saves on the day for her fifth win of the season in net.
Besides their offensive accuracy, the Pioneers outgained the Hawks 28-12 in ground balls to show off their all-around might.
The Pioneers will now enjoy a three-day break in Florida before returning to Gulf Breeze High School on Saturday, March 17 at 10:00 a.m. to face Birmingham-Southern College in another nonconference contest.
