Lexington, Ky. – Four different players posted hat-tricks in their first game at Pat Deacon Stadium in over a month as the Transylvania women's lacrosse team defeated the Hanover College Panthers, 18-3 on Wednesday night.
The win grew the Pioneers' win streak to eight straight games and elevated their record to 10-1 overall and a perfect 5-0 in Ohio River Women's Lacrosse Conference play, while the Panthers fall to 6-4 overall and 3-1 against ORLC competition.
Freshman attack Shelby Wuest led the Pioneers with four goals and an assist in the victory, while the trio of junior midfielder Emma Oliver, and freshman midfielders Rachel Johnston and Salem Carlow each scored three goals.
The Pioneers took a quick 1-0 lead on a goal from sophomore midfielder Brianna McCulley just three minutes into the game.
Hanover responded with an equalizer just two minutes later. This goal would be the motivation the Pioneers needed to take over the game.
Following the Panthers goal, Transylvania reeled off 10 straight goals to end the first half with an 11-1 lead.
The Pioneers continued to dominate the Panthers throughout the second half, outscoring Hanover 7-2 en route to the 18-3 victory.
Transylvania's defense was dominant throughout the night as the Pioneers forced the Panthers into 32 turnovers, and scooped up 40 ground balls in comparison to just 19 for Hanover. Sophomore defender Harper Zeitz led the Pioneers with eight ground balls, while Oliver posted a team-high four caused turnovers.
Junior goalkeeper Mackenzie Dent picked up the victory for the Pioneers by giving up just three goals while recording four saves in 60 minutes of action.
Next up for the Pioneers is a showdown with ORLC powerhouse Washington & Jefferson College on Sunday, April 8. First draw between the Presidents and the Pioneers is set for 1:00 p.m. at Pat Deacon Stadium.
