Lexington, Ky. – Senior midfielder Emma Oliver was named the Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference Offensive Player of the Week and junior defender Harper Zeitz was selected as the HCLC Defensive Player of the Week in the conference's Tuesday releases of the player of the week awards.
After another 2-0 week of play on the field, a Transylvania women's lacrosse player won HCLC player of the week accolades for the second consecutive week with Oliver and Zeitz sweeping both sides of the awards for the week of March 4-10.
Oliver, a senior from Louisville, Kentucky (Ballard HS), totaled nine goals and 15 assists over two games last week. In Wednesday's 18-1 home win over Aurora, Oliver produced four goals, three assists, four ground balls, and a team-high five draw controls. Oliver's rate of return was efficient as she scored her four goals on just six shots on goal.
The senior followed up the all-around performance with a season-high output in goals and points on Sunday as the Pioneers defeated Hendrix, 25-9. Oliver reached a hat-trick prior to halftime and finished the game with five goals, three assists, three ground balls, and a team-high eight ground balls. Oliver's output lifted the Pioneers to a single-game high in total goals.
Zeitz, a junior from Louisville, Kentucky (Eastern HS), played a heavy defensive role in both of Transylvania's victories this past week. Zeitz led the defense this past Wednesday as the Pioneers held Aurora to just one score over 60 minutes, adding a game-high six caused turnovers to go with six ground balls. With Zeitz keying the defense, Aurora mustered just four shots on goal in the match and endured 20 failed clears. Zeitz aided the Pioneers in forcing 34 total Aurora turnovers.
In Sunday's 25-9 win over Hendrix, Zeitz claimed three ground balls and with the defense, held Hendrix scoreless over the final 25 minutes of the match.
The player of the week award is the eighth of Oliver's career and the first for Zeitz.
Transylvania women's lacrosse is in action on Tuesday, March 12 as the Pioneers play at Roanoke College at 7:00 p.m.
