Lexington, Ky. - Transylvania women's lacrosse defender Harper Zeitz has been selected as the Heartland Collegiate Women's Lacrosse Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
In a Tuesday release by the conference, Zeitz, a junior from Louisville, Kentucky (Eastern HS), captured the award after leading the Pioneers to a 1-0 start in HCLC play this past week.
Zeitz played a significant defensive role in both of Transylvania's games this past week. Zeitz led the team defensively in the Pioneers' 21-1 victory over Anderson on Tuesday night, collecting five ground balls, four draw controls, and causing two turnovers.
The junior followed up this performance with one ground ball and three draw controls in Transylvania's 16-9 nonconference loss to a strong Kenyon side on Saturday afternoon.
Zeitz currently leads the HCLC with 20 caused turnovers on the season and ranks third in ground balls collected with 43 on the year. Additionally, the junior commands a Transylvania defensive unit that allows a conference-leading 7.33 goals per game.
The player of the week award is the second of Zeitz's career and the fifth earned by a Transylvania women's lacrosse player this season.
Zeitz and the Pioneers will be back in action this Wednesday, April 10 when they travel to Hanover, Indiana to take on the Hanover College Panthers. The game is set for a 4:00 p.m. start at Alumni Stadium.
