Lexington, Ky. – The Transylvania women's lacrosse team moved to 3-0 in Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference play with an impressive 24-0 victory over the Franklin College Grizzlies at Pat Deacon Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The 24 Transylvania goals scored by 14 different Pioneers marked the second-highest scoring output by the team this season.
Bailee Stevens provided the Pioneers with a career-high five points via three goals and two assists while Brianna McCulley also recorded five points with a two-goal, three-assist performance on Saturday.
Also contributing to the Pioneers' offensive exploits was Hannah Maroni, who tallied a career-high three goals to go along with an assist, three ground balls, and two draw controls. The sophomore defender also caused a turnover in the Transylvania victory.
After moving the ball around the field with ease, the Pioneers began their offensive exhibition with a goal from Courtney Pontious at the 25:13 mark of the first half. Transylvania would go on to add 11 more goals before the halftime intermission.
With the hefty lead in hand, Transylvania continued to involve numerous Pioneers in the offensive attack. Eight Pioneers combined to score 12 goals in the second half, pushing the final score to 24-0 in favor of Transylvania.
Defensively, the Pioneers were led by Harper Zeitz who tallied 12 draw controls, scooped three groundballs, and caused four turnovers, all while anchoring a defensive unit that did not allow a Franklin goal.
Following Transylvania's winter semester finals week, the Pioneers will be back in action on Saturday, April 20 as they travel to Crestview Hills, Kentucky for an HCLC matchup against the Thomas More University Saints. First draw between the Pioneers and Saints is set for 12:00 p.m. at BB&T Field.
