Lexington, Ky. – Transylvania women's lacrosse midfielder Courtney Pontious has been selected as the Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference's Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon.
Pontious, a sophomore from Caledonia, Michigan (Caledonia HS) produced a career-high offensive output in the Pioneers' lone game of the past week, a 20-2 win over conference opponent Thomas More University on Saturday, April 20.
In the victory against Thomas More, Pontious scored seven of her career-high eight goals in the first half to lift the Pioneers ahead of Thomas More for their fourth conference victory in as many games.
Along with her career-high goal-scoring performance, Pontious added an assist, three ground balls, and seven of Transylvania's 20 draw controls on the afternoon to keep the Pioneers undefeated and in a tie for first place in the HCLC standings.
This is the second straight week in which the sophomore has captured Offensive Player of the Week honors. It is the eighth HCLC player of the week award a Transy women's lacrosse player has captured this season.
Pontious and the Pioneers return to play on Wednesday, April 24 as they welcome the Earlham College Quakers to Lexington in a battle of undefeated teams. Opening draw is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Pat Deacon Stadium.
