Lea Wise Prewitt begins her second year on the women’s basketball
coaching staff as a volunteer assistant coach.
Prewitt was a part of the Pioneers fourth consecutive HCAC Title and the
team going on an unforgettable NCAA Tournament run where they reached
the Elite Eight, and finished the season at 27-1 overall.
Prior to joining the TU staff, Prewitt was an assistant for the Montgomery
County High School Boys basketball team. She is also an accomplished
basketball development coach.
Prewitt began her career as the head coach of Centre College in 1984.
Her record at Centre from 1984-1989 was 97-35 (73% winning percentage)
and she coached the Colonels to to four consecutive 20-win seasons. Her
1986-87 team was Centre’s first women’s team to reach the NCAA
tournament with a record of 23-5. Her 1988-89 team made it to the Final
Four, which Centre hosted, and finished third – again, the highest finish
ever by a Centre men’s or women’s basketball team.
Prewitt was a 4-year starter for the University of Kentucky women’s
basketball team from 1979-1983. During her career, she scored 1,179
points and dished out 464 assists leading to being named an All-SEC
performer in 1982.
As a result of her athletic endeavors, Prewitt is a member of the Kentucky
Athletic HOF, the Dawahare’s KHSAA Athletic HOF and the Centre College
Athletic HOF.
Lea lives in Mt Sterling, Kentucky with her husband Omar. She has two
daughters Maggie de Saint Etienne and Elizabeth Aderoba. Her son Omar
Prewitt is currently playing professional basketball overseas. She is also a
proud grandmother of two.
