Tim Whitesel is in his eighth year with the Transylvania women’s basketball coaching staff as the Assistant Coach and Director of Quantitative Analytics.
In his most recent season, 2022-23, Whitesel’s contributions helped the Pioneers reel off an undefeated 33-0 to win their first national championship in school history, along with their fifth consecutive HCAC Championship. In 2021-22 the team went on to reach the Elite Eight of the 2022 NCAA Division III Tournament, with the historic campaign ending at 27-1 overall. Whitesel and his staff were named the 2022 Transylvania Coaching Staff of the Year.
Prior to joining the TU staff in 2014, Whitesel served as an Associate Head Coach and Assistant Coach for the women's basketball program at Lewis & Clark College under head coach Juli Fulks for 10 years. While at Lewis & Clark, Tim helped the Pioneers win the Northwest Conference twice and participate in the NCAA tournament three times.
Previous to Lewis & Clark, Tim was the Head Girls Coach at Sunset High School in Portland, Oregon, and coached collegiate men's basketball at Concordia University (Oregon) and Eastern Oregon University.
A native of Fredonia, New York, Tim earned his B.S. in Biology and B.A. in Philosophy from State University of New York, College at Fredonia. Tim continued his education at the University of Rhode Island where he graduated with his M.S. in Zoology and later his Ph.D. in Biological Sciences.
Tim also works as a Fisheries Scientist for the United States Fish and Wildlife Service and serves as an Adjunct Professor for Portland State University’s Department of Biology. Tim currently resides in Brush Prairie, Washington, with his wife MaryLouise and daughter Natalie.
