Transylvania women's soccer shuts out Covenant on the road

Lookout Mountain, Ga. – A pair of goals from freshmen midfielder Abby Baker and forward Tori Nordin led the Transylvania women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over the Covenant College Scots on Saturday night.

The Pioneers took charge of the game early on, peppering the Scots defense with numerous shots in the opening minutes of play.

Then in the 20th minute, Transylvania freshman Ashley Chindo sent a pass towards goal that Baker blasted into the goal from five yards away.

The Pioneers continued to control the ball throughout the rest of the half, but the Scots defense held strong and the score remained 1-0 at the intermission.

Transylvania added to its lead in the 68th minute when Nordin redirected a pass from Baker into the back of the net for her first career goal, pushing the Pioneers lead to 2-0.

With the two-goal lead in toe, Transylvania's defense held off Covenant over the final 20 minutes of play to preserve the 2-0 victory.

The Pioneers offensive prowess translated into a 21-11 advantage in shots taken over the Scots.

Senior goalkeeper Ally Barfield picked up the victory in goal for the Pioneers and combined with freshman Morgan Patton to record six saves and not allow a goal in 90 minutes of action.

Next up for the Pioneers is a non-conference showdown with the Berea College Mountaineers on Monday night, September 17. First touch between the Pioneers and the Mountaineers is set for 7:00 p.m. at Pat Deacon Stadium.
