Roach provides offensive infusion as Transylvania women's soccer wins at Defiance

Defiance, Ohio – Led by a five-point performance from Meron Roach, the Transylvania women's soccer team cruised to a 5-0 victory over the Defiance College Yellow Jackets at Winsper-Knobel Memorial Field on Saturday afternoon.

With the victory, the Pioneers improve to 5-7-2 on the season and 3-1-1 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. The result drops the Yellow Jackets' record to 4-11-1 overall and 0-5-0 in league play.

The Pioneers opened up an early 2-0 lead as Roach scored in the 11th minute and later assisted on a goal by Brooke Puterbaugh in the 16th minute.

With minutes remaining in the first half, Abby Baker scored her HCAC-leading ninth goal of the season to give the Pioneers a 3-0 lead at the halftime intermission.

The scoring resumed for the Pioneers in the 68th minute when Roach completed her third brace of the season as she drove the ball down the sideline and slipped a shot past the Defiance goalkeeper, raising Transy's lead to 4-0.

Transylvania's final strike of the day came via Brett Edwards, who gave the Pioneers a 5-0 lead on her third goal of the season. Caitlin Meurer assisted on the Edwards goal.

Sloan Cromwell picked up the victory in net for the Pioneers. The senior collected four saves en route to her first career shutout.

Up next for Transylvania is a home matchup against the Hanover College Panthers on Wednesday, October 23. First touch between the Pioneers and the Panthers is set for 7:00 p.m. at Pat Deacon Stadium.
