Lexington, Ky. – Transylvania swimming junior Sarah Haerle has earned the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week award for women's swimming, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Haerle, a junior from Newburgh, Indiana (Castle HS), captured Player of the Week award honors for the second time in the 2018-19 season after achieving multiple individual victories over a grueling weekend for the Pioneers, which competed in two meets within a 24-hour period.
The Pioneers women's swim team picked up a 125-93 victory against Union (Ky.) College last Friday in Lexington, led by Haerle's first-place takings in the women's 100 breaststroke (1:11.29) and the women's 200 individual medley (2:12.15). Haerle teamed up with three teammates win the women's 200 individual medley relay in 2:03.07.
Haerle and the Pioneers took their talents the next afternoon to Franklin College in Indiana, where they competed against Thomas More, Hanover, and the host Franklin College Grizzlies. Haerle took first place in the women's 200 breaststroke in 2:34.92, and grabbed a second-place finish in the women's 200 IM in 2:22.55. Haerle's efforts propelled the Pioneers to wins over Thomas More and Hanover in Saturday's meet.
Haerle's award is the fourth POTW award won by a Pioneer swimmer in the 2018-19 season.
The Pioneers return to the pool on December 1-2 for their marquee event of the fall, the Transylvania Invitational at the University of Kentucky's Lancaster Aquatic Center.
