Transylvania women's tennis outslammed at Centre

Danville, Ky. – The Transylvania women's tennis team suffered a 9-0 loss to the Centre College Colonels at the Centre Tennis Courts on Wednesday night.

With the loss, Transylvania's record falls to 2-1 on the season while Centre opens the 2019 campaign with a 1-0 mark.

Transylvania fell behind 3-0 following a sweep of doubles play by Centre. The duo of Porsche Robinson and Jessica Burton presented the Colonels with the most turbulence, falling by the score of 8-3 to Centre's Hannah Doherty and Caroline Stallings.

The Pioneers' best chance of a victory came in the No. 1 singles matchup that saw Robinson battle Centre's Katharine Sherman to a final score of 6-1, 6-4.

Transylvania senior Merrick Irwin started off strong in her No. 3 singles matchup against Doherty before falling by the final score of 6-4, 6-0.

The Colonels clenched the matchup with a 6-3, 6-0 victory by Stallings over Burton in the No. 2 singles match.

Up next for Transylvania is a trip to Hanover, Indiana for a showdown with Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Hanover College on Wednesday, September 25. Opening serve between the Pioneers and Panthers is set for 4:30 p.m. at the Zeddies Tennis Center.
