Lexington, Ky. - The Transylvania women's tennis team rolled to an impressive 9-0 victory over the Mount St. Joseph University Lions at the Top Seed Tennis Club on Wednesday night.
The win was the fourth straight win for the Pios to begin Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play as they moved to 4-0 in the HCAC and 4-1 overall. The Lions fell to 3-6 and 1-4 in HCAC play.
Transylvania jumped out to a commanding 3-0 lead over Mount St. Joseph after doubles play. Leading the way for the Pioneers was the duo of Erin Biddle and Christina Duvall, who captured an 8-2 victory over Jessica Berger and Tessa Mayes in the No. 3 doubles match.
Additionally, the team of Porsche Robinson and Jessica Burton rolled to an 8-3 victory in the No. 1 doubles match while Merrick Irwin and Alyssa Igyarto claimed an 8-4 win in their No. 2 doubles bout against Erin Kallmeyer and Katie Fellinger.
The Pioneers continued to dominate the Lions into singles play, sweeping all six matches including a 6-0, 6-0 win by Igyarto in the No. 4 singles matchup.
The most thrilling match of the night came via Shania Jones, who captured a 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (10-5) victory over Tessa Mayes in the No. 6 singles match.
Up next for the Pioneers is a matchup against the Franklin College Grizzlies on Saturday, October 5. The match is set for a 10:00 a.m. start at the Transylvania Tennis Courts.
