"We opened the indoor season setting five schools records," said Head Coach Heidi Pinkerton. "This is a great starting point for the team and I look forward to what we will accomplish this season."
On the men's side, the freshman made a big impact in the record books. Freshman Cole Green set two Transylvania school records on the day, competing in the finals of the Men's 200 Meter Dash and recording a sixth-place finish with a time of 23.80, and the Men's 60 Meter Dash with a time of 7.22 seconds. Freshman Kyle Sprague notched a school record in the 3000 Meter Run with a time of 10:06.68, and freshman Alex Czujko recorded a time of 4:56.96 in Men's 1 Mile for his school record. The Men's 4x400 Meter Relay team recorded a strong 3:41.14 for a sixth-place finish, thanks to Czujko, senior Ben Hoseus, senior Mason Williams and freshman Henry Kramer, recording the team's sixth school record of the day, cutting .25 seconds off the record time.
On the women's side, sophomore Shelby Auxier, sophomore Stephanie Wright, freshman Erin Marek and sophomore Katie Cohron combined to record a school record in the Women's 4x200 Meter Relay with a time of 1:54.97.
Marek also made it to the finals of the Women's 500 Meter Dash, recording a third-place finish.
The 2014 Otterbein Invitational hosted at the Celment Center featured 11 competing teams including Robert Morris, Tiffin, Otterbein, John Carroll, Wheeling Jesuit, Wittenberg, Capital, Ohio Dominican, Wilmington (Ohio) and Cuyahoga Community College, as well as individual competitors and club teams from Rio Grande, Mount St. Joseph, and Shawnee State.
The men's and women's track and field team see competition next on Jan. 25 at Denison College at 11 a.m.
