The women captured three impressive first-place finishes on Saturday, each a Transylvania school record. Freshman Katie Cohron grabbed first place in the Women's 400 Meter Dash, recording a 1:02.08 for a personal and school record, followed immediately by teammate freshman Erin Marek in second, who recorded a personal record with 1:03.02. Freshman Cora Kerber also nabbed a first place, recording a 2:26.29 performance in the Women 800 Meter Run, knocking nearly three seconds off her personal best time.
The Women 4x400 Meter Relay team, consisting of Cohron, Kerber, freshman Erin Marek, and sophomore Shelby Auxier, turned in a 4:17.24, recording the fastest time ever in Transylvania history for indoor or outdoor track and field. The time also knocked nearly seven seconds off the relay team's best time.
A third and fourth place was also awarded to the women in the Women 60 Meter Dash and Women 200 Meter Dash by Auxier (8.37) and Marek (27.92), respectively, both setting personal records.
The men's team captured five top finishes of their own, including several school records.
Freshman Cole Green continued his strong first season, placing third in the Men 200 Meter Dash with a time of 23.04, taking nearly a quarter second off his own school record. Green also placed fourth in the Men 60 Meter Dash in a large field, recording a 7.20 time.
Senior Mason Williams managed two top finishes, placing fourth in the Men 400 Meter Dash in 53.08 and sixth in the 200 Meter Dash with a performance time of 23.89, for an indoor personal record.
The 4x200 Meter Relay and Distance Medley Relay teams each placed atop their respective meets, recording a fourth place finish and fifth place finish, respectively. The 4x200 Meter team, consisting of Green, freshman Henry Kramer, junior Ben Lyvers, and Williams, placed with a time of 1:36.21, just .25 seconds off their best time. The team of freshman Alex Czujko, junior Brian Daffin, sophomore Chris Saldana, and freshman Kyle Sprague also made the record books, recording a new school record of 11:36.52.
In distance running, Sprague broke the 3,000 Meter Transylvania record with a time of 9:42.99, taking a whopping 22 seconds off his previous time. The record for the 3,000 Meter has been broken three times this season by him and teammate Czujko. Czujko, also, broke his Mile Record in a time of 4:55.52, slashing more than a second and a half off his best time.
An impressive total of 15 personal bests were recorded on the day between both men's and women's teams, a great sign of improvement, according to Head Coach Heidi Pinkerton.
"The team had several individual wins on the women's side and the men had multiple top finishes," said Head Coach Heidi Pinkerton. "Everyone keeps improving and I know we are ready to turn some heads at the indoor conference meet on Feb. 22."
Both teams prepare for the upcoming Heartland Conference meet on Feb. 22, also held at Anderson University.
