Three school records, one victory for Pioneers at Anderson

ANDERSON, Ind.- The Transylvania University track and field teams had another solid day in their final preparation before the Heartland CollegiateAthletic Conference (HCAC) Indoor Championships, finishing the day with three new school records and a victory.

As they have all season, the Pioneers got off to a hot start. The women's 4x200 meter relay team opened the meet, setting the first school record on the day. Juniors Shelby Auxier, Erin Marek, and Katie Cohron, along with freshman Savannah Hemmer ran a time of 1:50.18 to drop nearly a second off the record set last year picking up a third-place finish. Cohron followed up with a third place finish in the women's 400 meter dash.

Also early in the meet, freshman Bradley Easterling continued his progress in the men's shot put, breaking his own record in the event. Easterling threw 19 centimeters further for a throw of 10.94 meters.

The third school record set by the Pioneers came in the men's mile run. Sophomore Kyle Sprague dropped seven seconds off his personal best time to break the old school record by four seconds, running a time of 4:51.17.

Sophomore Taylor Sanders had the lone victory of the day for the Pioneers in the women's shot put. Sanders had the two best throws in event, with her best being 11.06 meters.

Other top scorers for Transylvania included the men's 4x200 meter relay, run by senior Brian Daffin, sophomores Cole Green and Henry Kramer, and freshman Aaron Botts. Their season best time of 1:37.31was good for fourth.

The women's 4x400 relay, consisting of Auxier, Marek, Cohron, and Hemmer, closed out the meet with a second place finish in the event.

The Pioneers return for their final action of the indoor season with the HCAC Championships hosted by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Feb. 21.
