Two more track records fall in final prep before HCAC Championships

GREENCASTLE, Ind.- In their final preparation meet before the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships the Pioneers continued to show they are a program on the rise. Three first place finishes and school records in the women's 4x200 meter relay and men's 200 meter dash highlighted the day at the Depauw Indoor Invitational.

Setting the tone early in the meet was the women's 4x200 meter relay team of sophomore Savannah Hemmer, freshman Olivia Kee, senior Shelby Auxier, and junior Jordin Fender. A fall in the previous meet didn't hold back Transy as they sped to a new school record in a time of 1:50.03. That time bested last year's record by .15 seconds. Their effort also earned them the first victory of the day.

Fender and Kee continued their dominance in the 60 meter hurdles, yet again taking finishing first and second, respectively. Fender and Kee then turned around a short five minutes later to finish first and seventh in the 60 meter dash, respectively.

On the men's side, junior Cole Green took a pair of second place finishes in the 60 meter and 200 meter dashes. Green continued to shave time off his 200 meter dash setting yet another school record and lowering his indoor personal best by .01 seconds.

Capping off the day's highlights for the running events was the women's 4x400 meter relay, comprised of the same four who took to the track in the 4x200 meter relay, which ran a season best time of 4:17.57 to finish third in the event.

The field events were not going to be overshadowed by the track events and junior Taylor Sanders made sure of that. Sanders threw a new personal best in the women's weight throw, placing sixth, and then continued her success in the shot put by throwing for a second place finish.

Freshman Nathan McCullough also earned a seventh place finish in the men's triple jump.

Transy will look to continue their success and put out their best performances of the season as they head to the 2016 HCAC Indoor Track and Field Championships on February 20th hosted by Defiance College. This will mark the final indoor meet of the season for the full squad.
