Granville, Ohio – The Transylvania track and field team enjoyed a balanced performance in its second indoor meet of the 2017 season, the Denison Lid-Lifter hosted by Denison University at the Mitchell Center on Saturday.
New indoor school records were established in the men's weight throw, the shot put, and the triple jump on Saturday as the Pioneers excelled in multiple field events.
Junior Bradley Easterling led the way in the weight throw, releasing a toss of 11.76 meters in the finals for the first program record of the day. Sophomore Michael Hanna established a new record in men's shot put, with an 11.41-meter toss in his shot put final to establish a new standard in Transylvania field records.
Sophomore Nathan McCullough set his record in the men's triple jump with a leap of 12.67 meters. His jump in the finals was good for a third-place finish in the event.
For the second straight week, senior Jordin Fender picked up a victory in the women's 60 meter hurdles race.
Fender, the reigning HCAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week, crossed the line in 9.36 seconds to claim the win for the Pioneers. Fender also notched an eighth-place finish in the finals of the women's 200 meter finals.
The Pioneers also secured points in the women's pole vault, as sophomore Shelby Lewis placed fifth in the finals with a jump of 2.60 meters.
Senior Taylor Sanders continued her solid start to the 2017 season with a second-place finish in the women's shot put, completing a throw of 11.43 meters in the final.
The Pioneers next return to competition one week from Saturday, on January 28, as they visit Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. The final meet of January offers the Pioneers a first glance at the site of this February's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships.
