Transylvania jumpers lead the way at Rose-Hulman event

Terre Haute, Ind. – The third indoor meet of the season for the Transylvania track and field team presented a collection of personal bests at the Rose-Hulman Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

Transylvania senior sprinter Jordin Fender set a personal record in the women's 60 meter hurdles by crossing the finish line in 9.11 seconds. Fender finished third in the race. The senior also picked up a second-place finish in the women's 60 meter finals, completing that race in 7.96 seconds.

The Pioneers set multiple records for a second straight weekend in numerous field events, led by freshman Rian Boelter's performance in the women's high jump. Boelter completed a jump of 1.40 meters to place fifth in the event and set a new Transylvania women's program record.

Fellow senior Taylor Sanders matched Boelter by producing a record in the women's weight throw. Sanders established a new record of 13.68 meters to finish third in the event. Sanders also nabbed a top-four finish in the women's shot put finals.

The Transylvania men also picked up a collection of records; Sophomore Malik Jackson set a new school record in the men's triple jump, lunging 13.25 meters to finish second overall in the event for what perhaps was Transylvania's best moment of the day.

Junior Bradley Easterling also notched a school record in the men's weight throw with his toss of 11.84 meters.

In distance events, junior Elizabeth Deaton grabbed a third-place finish in the women's 5000 meter run, completing her journey in 20:12.81 seconds.

The best finish in men's track events belonged to senior Cole Green, who placed third in the men's 60 meter event with a time of 7.17 seconds.

The Pioneers women's team finished fifth out of eight teams, while the Pioneers men's team took a seventh-place finish at Rose-Hulman.

The Pioneers continue their indoor circuit next weekend as they visit Anderson University on Saturday, February 4.
