Fender and Pioneers enjoy season-bests at Depauw Indoor Invitational

Greencastle, Ind. – Aiming to sharpen its skills before the Heartland Collegiate Indoor Track and Field Championships, the Transylvania track and field team competed on Saturday at the Depauw Indoor Invitational at Hollensteiner Track.

The Pioneers took a condensed squad with them on their journey to Depauw University to continue their move towards a promising finish to their Indoor Track and Field season.

Senior Jordin Fender had a Saturday to remember as she posted a new school record and personal best in the women's 60 meter hurdles event. Fender's time of 9.05 seconds also served as a new meet record.

It was freshman Zoe Jessie who shined in women's field events for the Pioneers. Jessie's jump of 9.22 meters was a PR for her. Sophomore Shelby Lewis had her season-best jump in the women's pole vault, recording a 2.75 meter jump to pick up seventh in the event.

There were plenty more PRs for the rest of the Pioneers who made the trip to Depauw. Junior Elizabeth Deaton established a new PR in the women's 3000 meter race, finishing in 11:25.80 seconds to claim seventh in the race. Fellow sophomore Rebecca Facktor recorded her season-best time in the event, finishing in 12:04.70 seconds. Freshman Jennai Mitchell had her season-best time in the women's 800-meter run as she completed a 2.44.18 run.

In men's action, senior Cole Green recorded his season-best time in the men's 200-meter dash: Green came in second with a time of 22.54 seconds and had the best time of any Division III student-athlete at the event. Green also picked up a third-place finish in the men's 60-meter event. Sophomore Nicolas Johnston also enjoyed a PR in the 200-meter event, with a time of 23.90.

Senior Evan Reister had a personal-best time in the men's one-mile run, finishing in 4:50.92 seconds.

The Pioneers next compete at the HCAC Indoor Track and Field Championships the following Saturday, February 18 at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana.
