Pioneers drop two matches in final day of Emory Classic

ATLANTA, Ga.—The Transylvania University volleyball team fell in the final two matches of the Emory Classic over the weekend.

The Pioneers were defeated by Randolph-Macon in straight sets 25-22, 25-19 and 25-11.

Transylvania faced a nine-point deficit before pulling to within three at 22-19, but Randolph-Macon took the final three points of the set.

In the second set, the Pioneers battled early holding a 6-6 tie before the Yellow Jackets pulled away to take the set. The momentum carried into the final set for Randolph-Macon as they jumped out to 10-2 lead on their way to the sweep.

Junior Erin Romito led the Pioneers with nine kills, while junior Audrey Brown tallied 19 digs in the loss.

In Saturday's second match, the Pioneers faced off against Birmingham Southern and took the first set 25-18. The Panthers, however, rallied to take the next three sets 25-17, 25-21 and 25-21.

The Pioneers take on Baldwin Wallace Friday in the first of four weekend matches at Bluffton University. Friday's match is set for 4 p.m.
