No. 22 Transylvania Volleyball expands win streak to nine matches with home sweep of Spalding

Transy wins

Lexington, Ky. – The No. 22 Transylvania volleyball team cruised to its ninth straight win with a 25-13, 25-13, 25-11 victory over the Spalding University Golden Eagles on Wednesday evening at the Beck Center.

Appearing at home for the first time in over two weeks, the Pioneers looked comfortable and prepared but didn't spend much time at the friendly confines at the Beck Center as they wrapped up another dominant win in just over an hour's worth of game time.

The Pioneers improved to 10-2 on the season while Spalding dropped to 0-7 overall.

Playing in its first match since being nationally ranked in the AVCA Top 25 for the first time in the 18-year history of the program,  the Pioneers picked up from where they left off last weekend with a ferocious opening set, gaining 13 kills to just three errors for a .323 attacking percentage to open up the night.

Ellie Stigger led the Pioneers in another powerful second set, piling up six of her match-high 14 kills in the set as the Pioneers took a two sets to none lead. Transylvania was nearly perfect on offense, racking up 16 kills to just two errors.

Transylvania finished off the night allowing Spalding virtually no breathing room as the home team held the Eagles to a -.125 attacking percentage in the final set. Transylvania, meanwhile, registered its highest attacking percentage in the final set at .464.

Taryn Glass joined Stigger in reaching double-digit kills with 10 on the night. Hannah Talkers led the Pioneers with 32 assists and also offered nine digs and six kills. Talker brought her career assist total up to 3,133 to move into second place all-time on the Pioneer career assist list.

Sylvie Miller led the way in the digs department with 14.

The Pioneers are back at home this weekend as they welcome Ohio Wesleyan and Marietta to the Beck Center for a Saturday tri-match. The first match gets underway at 10 a.m. between Transylvania and the Ohio Wesleyan University Battling Bishops, followed by a match between Ohio Wesleyan and the Marietta College Pioneers. The final match of the day presents a contest between Transylvania and Marietta, scheduled for an approximately 2:00 p.m. start.
