Box Score 2 LEXINGTON, Ky. - Transylvania opened Heartland Conference play Saturday by splitting a doubleheader with Rose-Hulman, winning the first game 10-0 and losing the second 7-6 in softball action at Hall Field.
The Pioneers are 7-10-1 overall, 1-1 HCAC, while the Engineers are 8-10, 2-2 HCAC.
In the five-inning opener, starter
Olivia Wall (El Campo, Tex.) got her fifth win in seven decisions, allowing just two hits and striking out three against just one walk. She got plenty of support as Transy used eight hits and three errors by the Engineers to run up a 10-0 advantage after three innings of action.
The Pioneers got four runs in each of the first two innings and two more in the third.
Michelle Ladanyi (Winchester, Ky.) had three hits, including her second home run of the season. She had a run-scoring triple in the first and a three-run homer in the second. She finished with six RBI.
Anne Broadhead (Booneville, Ind.) added a pair of hits and scored twice while
Bethany Evans (Milford, Ohio) chipped in with a hit and three runs batted in.
In the second game,
Jessica Pierce (LaGrange, Ky.) singled home two runs in the bottom of the seventh to get the Pioneers within a run, but the rally fell short in a one-run loss.
Megan Mitchell (West Lafayette, Ind.) was two-for-two with her sixth home run of the year and she also scored twice.
Ladanyi also had two hits and
Alex Spainhour had a double and drove in a run.
Transy will step out of HCAC play on Monday, traveling to Capital for a 3:30 matchup.
