Bats come alive in Transy sweep of Franklin

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 FRANKLIN, Ind. - Transylvania sophomore All-American Megan Mitchell (West Lafayette, Ind.) cracked a pair of home runs and drove in six, keying the Pioneers to an 8-0 win over Franklin Sunday and to a sweep of a Heartland Conference softball doubleheader.

Winners of nine straight games, the Pioneers are 16-11-1 overall, 9-1 in HCAC play, while the Grizzlies are 5-15, 1-5 in the conference. Transy won the second game 16-0 in five innings.

In the opener, Mitchell had her 11th and 12th home runs of the year among three hits. She not only drove in six, but she scored three times. Michelle Ladanyi (Winchester, Ky.) also had three hits, including a double, and scored twice.

Olivia Wall (El Campo, Tex.) (9-3) got the win, allowing four hits in six innings. She struck out six and walked two. Transy had 13 hits in the game.

In the second game, Transy tallied nine first-inning runs and led 11-0 after three en route to the romp. Mitchell was walked four times, but still scored twice with one RBI.

Anne Broadhead (Booneville, Ind.) was four-for-four with three runs scored and Ladanyi added three hits, including a pair of doubles, to go with four RBI and two runs. Emily McCarty (Hawesville, Ky.) contributed two hits and four RBI while Kaitlyn Kallenborn (Marshallville, Ohio) notched one hit and drove home three.

Kendra DeArk (Jeffersonville, Ind.) allowed three hits over four innings to get the win, her fifth of the year, while striking our four and walking none. Kaitlyn Foree (Pleasureville, Ky.) hurled a scoreless fifth with one strikeout.

The games were pushed back a day due to rain. Transy's doubleheader with Trine, which was to be played on Sunday, was cancelled. The Pioneers are back in action on Saturday when they return home to host Anderson in a 1 p.m. HCAC doubleheader.
