LEXINGTON, Ky. - Transylvania senior
Kendra DeArk (Jeffersonville, Ind.)drove in a run with a double Sunday and pitched out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the seventh inning, helping the Pioneers to a 2-1 win over Anderson and to a sweep of a Heartland Conference doubleheader matching the league's top two teams.
Winners of 11 straight games, the Pioneers are 18-11-1 overall, 11-1 in HCAC play, while the Ravens are 17-11, 7-3 HCAC. Anderson had an eight-game winning streak broken by a 4-3 loss to the Pioneers in the first game of the day.
DeArk drove in the second run of the game in the second inning with a double.
Alex Spainhour (Clarksville, Ind.)opened the frame with a two-base hit and
Karlie Mazzaro (Cincinnati, Ohio) pinch-ran, scoring the eventual winning run.
Anderson put its only run on the board in the sixth, but made the game a white-knuckler in the seventh, loading the bases on two singles and a fielder's choice. But DeArk (6-5) wriggled free of the jam by getting two strikeouts sandwiched around a pop up to short.
DeArk finished the game with six strikeouts and two walks while allowing just five hits.
In the first game,

Kaitlyn Foree (Pleasureville, Ky.) pitched the seventh for her first save of the year. She had nine strikeouts and three walks while permitting three hits and two earned runs.
Transy scored one run in the second and three in the third, making the most of five hits.

Anderson got two runs in the sixth to again make it interesting. Foree allowed a two-out hit, but got the final out on a come-backer to the mound.
