LEXINGTON, Ky. - Transylvania was held to just two hits Saturday and Anderson took a 2-0 decision to advance in the Heartland Conference Softball Tournament at Hall Field.
The Pioneers, regular season HCAC champions for the third year in a row, are 23-13-1 while Anderson, which advanced to the HCAC title game against Defiance, is 27-13.
Transy hurler
Kendra DeArk (Jeffersonville, Ind.) (8-7) allowed two runs in the first inning to the Ravens on four hits. She didn't permit another score while Anderson had just one basehit the rest of the way. She struck out three and didn't issue a walk.
Anne Broadhead (Booneville, Ind.) led off the game with a double, but that was the final hit for the Pioneers until the last inning, when
Ashley Pait (Jeffersonville, Ind.) and Broadhead managed back-to-back singles with two outs.
Monica Crowe had four strikeouts and two walks to win her 12th game of the season for Anderson.
The HCAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship goes to the league tournament winner. Transy would have to get an at-large bid to make the post-season for the second year in a row.
Broadhead and sophomore
Megan Mitchell were named to the All-Tournament team.
DeArk finished her career with 50 wins, the second-highest total in school history. Mitchell hit 17 home runs for the second straight year, tying her single season record and establishing a new career mark with 34.
