KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Transylvania gave up six runs in the first two inning Monday and Illinois Wesleyan held on for a 10-4 softball win over the Pioneers in their first day of play in the Rebel Spring Games.
Transy (1-7-1) also lost its first game of the day to Farmingdale by a count of 7-3.
In the second game, Transy had eight hits, including two each by
Emily McCarty,
Michelle Ladanyi, and
Megan Mitchell. McCarty scored twice and drove in a run while Ladanyi had a run and an RBI. Mitchell drove in a run as did
Elizabeth Young.
Kaitlyn Foree started the game and took the loss while Young pitched the final two and one-third innings, giving up just one run.
In the first game of the day,
Chelsea Meiners, who is hitting .429 on the season, had two hits and scored a run while driving in two.
Kayla Hanson had a double and scored a run for the Pioneers, who tired to rally back from a 5-0 deficit by scoring three runs in the fifth.
McCarty had an RBI for Transy, who also got a hit and a run from losing pitcher
Elizabeth Young. Young went the distance and allowed nine hits, but just three earned runs with two strikeouts and a walk.
The Pioneers are back in action on Tuesday, facing St. Norbert at 1 p.m. and Springfield College at 3 p.m. at the Osceola County Softball Complex.
