TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Transylvania rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh Saturday and held on for a 5-4 Heartland Conference softball win over Rose-Hulman in the first game of a doubleheader.
The Pioneers (12-10-1, 5-1 HCAC) later completed the sweep with a 9-4 win in the second game.
In the opener, Transy trailed the Engineers (6-14, 2-2 HCAC) 4-2 heading into the final inning. Rose-Hulman scored three runs in the first inning and led throughout the game before Transy's winning rally.
Cassie Hamilton led off the frame with a double and was replaced by pinch-runner
Andi Martin.
Chelsea Meiners followed with a double to make it 4-3 and, with two outs,
Megan Mitchell singled to tie the contest.
Alyssa Oakley singled home Mitchell with the game-winner.
Elizabeth Young (6-2) relieved starter
Kaitlyn Foree in the first and got the win. She allowed three hits and an unearned run. Young struck out four and walked one.
Emily Hampton had three of Transy's 12 hits.
Michelle Ladanyi added two hits and two RBI.
In the second game, Transy pounded out 11 hits and scored three runs in the second and five more in the third inning to win going away. Young (7-2) got her second win of the day, going four innings and allowing three hits and one earned run. She struck out three batters without a walk. Hampton and Foree finished up with Foree getting the final four outs.
Hampton also led the offense with three hits, two runs, and two RBI. Oakley added two hits and two RBI while Young also drove in two runs.
Transy is back in action on Tuesday when it hosts HCAC rival Franklin at 3:30 p.m. at Hall Field.
