HANOVER, Ind. - Transylvania's
Emily McCarty and
Michelle Ladanyi each had three hits Tuesday and combined for four runs and five RBI as the Pioneers topped Hanover 7-3 in Heartland Conference softball action.
The Panthers (10-24, 3-11 HCAC) salvaged a split of the doubleheader with a 2-1 win in the second game. Transy is 18-16-1, 9-5 in league action.
In the first game, senior
Kaitlyn Foree won her ninth game of the year with a complete game 10-hitter. She allowed two earned runs with two strikeouts and no walks. She also got her first collegiate hit, a one-out single in the sixth. She came around to score her first run on a two-run double by McCarty.
McCarty was three for four with a triple. She scored three runs and drove in three more. Ladanyi added a double and two singles. She also drove in two runs and scored another.
Alyssa Oakley,
Amy Hockstedler, and
Kayla Hanson each managed two hits and combined for two RBI and two runs.
In the second game, Hanover tied the game 1-1 in the fourth and pushed around the decisive run in the fifth. Each team had five hits.
Emily Hampton started for Transy and went 3.1 innings, giving up one run, none earned, with two strikeouts and four walks. Foree (9-8) took the loss despite allowing just one run and one hit in 2.2 innings.
Ladanyi led off the fourth inning with a double and came around to score on Hockstedler's basehit.
Transy loaded the bases with one out in the seventh inning, but Hanover got an out at home on a fielder's choice before Hockstedler lined out to right to end the game.
The Pioneers are back in action on Saturday when they host Bluffton in a doubleheader, beginning at 2:30 p.m. It will be Senior Day for fourth-year players
