LEXINGTON, Ky. - Transylvania exploded for 11 runs Tuesday to take an 11-1 five-inning Heartland Conference softball win over Franklin at Hall Field.
The Pioneers (13-11-1, 6-2 HCAC) saw the Grizzlies (7-9, 4-4 HCAC) rally for three seventh inning runs to take a 4-3 decision in the second game of the day.
In the first game, Transy had 10 hits and led by a 10-0 margin after three innings.
Elizabeth Young (8-2) went three innings and did not allow a hit to get the victory. She had three strikeouts and no walks.
Emily Hampton gave up three hits and a run over the next two innings.
Chelsea Meiners cracked three hits and scored three times while
Michelle Ladanyi went two for two with four RBI. Hampton also scored three times for the Pioneers while
Emily McCarty and
Cassie Hamilton scored twice apiece.
Young also started the second game and went into the bottom of the sixth trailing by a run, 1-0, after allowing an unearned score in the fifth.
Transy rallied for three sixth-inning runs. Meiners and McCarty led off with singles and scored on a triple off the bat of Ladanyi. Ladanyi later scored on
Alyssa Oakley's sacrifice fly.
Franklin took advantage of two Transy errors to score three unearned runs in the seventh.
Kaitlyn Foree, who relieved Young with one out and one on, got a strikeout before being pinned with the loss.
Transy is back in action on Saturday, traveling to Anderson for a 2 p.m. Heartland Conference doubleheader with the Ravens.
