ANDERSON, Ind. - Anderson pushed across the winning run in the sixth inning Saturday and defeated Transylvania 2-1 en route to a doubleheader Heartland Conference softball sweep of the Pioneers.
The Ravens (18-9, 8-0 HCAC) won the second game by a 9-1 count, getting six runs in the bottom of the sixth. Transy falls to 13-13-1, 6-4 HCAC.
In the first game, Transy got a strong performance from starting pitcher
Elizabeth Young, who went the distance and allowed six hits and two runs with three strikeouts and one walk. She drops to 8-3 on the season.
Chelsea Meiners had a hit and scored Transy's only run.
In the second game, Transy led 1-0 after two innings on
Amy Hockstedler's RBI ground-out, which scored
Megan Mitchell. Anderson scored twice in the third and once in the fourth to take a 3-1 lead before exploding for six runs in the sixth.
Kaitlyn Foree (5-7) gave up eight hits and five runs in four innings and Young finished up. Foree had no strikeouts and two walks.
The Pioneers are back in action on Monday when they host Capital in a non-conference doubleheader, beginning at 3 p.m. at Hall Field.
