MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Transylvania opened the 2013 softball season Saturday in the Rhodes Invitational and the Pioneers dropped a pair of decisions, 8-0 to Rhodes and 15-1 to Washington University in their second game of the day.
The Pioneers (0-2) had just two hits against Rhodes in their first game of the season.
Elizabeth Young had a double and
Amy Hockstedler added a single.
Rhodes had 14 hits and scored five runs in the second inning off losing pitcher
Katie Hulsman (0-1). Hulsman had two strikeouts and two walks while giving up seven earned runs. The Lynx scored a run in the fifth and two in the sixth to clinch the win.
Young, who started the game in the circle for the Pioneers against Washington, had Transy's only hit, a single to go with a walk. Hockstedler walked twice. The Bears had 13 total hits and scored five runs in the first inning and eight more in the third. Young took the loss, pitching three innings and permitting 12 hits.
The Pioneers will play the same two team on Sunday, beginning with a clash with Washington at noon.
