Lexington, Ky.- Offense was the key Tuesday as Transylvania swept Hanover 3-2 and 8-4 in a Heartland Conference doubleheader at Hall Field.
The wins move the Pioneers to 9-17 and 7-3 in Heartland Conference play, while the losses leave Hanover at 9-13 and 4-4 in conference play. Transy has won a season-best five games in a row.
The Pioneers needed the bottom of the seventh inning to overcome the Panthers in the first game.
Cassie Hamilton drove in the winning run with two outs of a single to left field.
Transy was propelled behind the arm of
Katie Hulsman, who earned the win in the contest and moves to 5-9 on the year.
In the second game, the Pioneers came out hitting right off the bat and earned three runs in the first inning off a
Michelle Ladanyi RBI single to center field and a two-run home run by
Megan Mitchell, her fourth of the year. Transy earned three more runs in the second inning when Ladanyi sent home three off a double to left field.
Jamie Lutes was credited with the win in the second contest. She had two strike outs and only one walk against 30 batters faced.
The Pioneers will be back in action on Saturday as they travel to Manchester for a doubleheader against HCAC rivals set to begin at noon.
