Rose-Hulman Takes Both in Double-Header 4-2, 2-0

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 TERRE HAUTE, Ind. â€" The Pioneers were held to only eight hits, falling 4-2 and 2-0, in two games Saturday.

The Pioneers could not have started the day any better, as Maddy Rodabaugh blasted a solo homer to start the game.  After an early 1-0 lead, the Pioneer offense halted.

Rose-Hulman tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the first, thanks to a two-out solo shot from Carly Heibel.

Transylvania quickly regained the lead, as Lauren Willett singled to left field to start the inning. Willett hustled to second on a Rose-Hulman error, putting one in scoring position for the Pioneers. Shelby Bailey sent a grounder back to the mound for the first out of the inning, but it was enough to move Willett to third.

Elizabeth Young put one in play to score Willett on the fielder's choice and gave the Pioneers a 2-1 lead. The Pioneers grounded into a double play to end the inning, as they were unable to add to their lead.

Transylvania held off Rose-Hulman until an RBI single from Marissa Stout in the bottom of the third, tied the game at two. The Fightin' Engineers added two more in the fourth inning, on their way to a 4-2 win in game one.

Transylvania's first two batters reached on Rose-Hulman errors to start Saturday's second game, but the Pioneers were unable to capitalize, as Rose-Hulman got the grounder they needed for the double play to end the threat.

Katie Hulsman reached on a single in the second, but was the only hit of the inning for the Pioneers. Rose-Hulman plated in in the bottom half of the inning, taking a 1-0 lead. Two more hits in the fourth helped the Fightin' Engineers plate their second run of the game, taking a 2-0 win in Saturday's second game.

A double from Bailey in the fifth, along with a single in the seventh was the only offense for Transylvania the rest of the game.

Rodabaugh finished 1-for-3 on the day with one RBI. Young also had a RBI going 0-for-3 Saturday.

The Pioneers are back on the road as they travel to Hanover College for a double-header Wednesday. The first game is set to begin at 3:30 p.m. with the second game to immediately follow.
