Box Score 2 LEXINGTON, Ky.—The Pioneers led wire-to-wire to pick up their fifth Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference win, as Jamie Lutes logged a one-hitter in a 6-0 rout of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Saturday at John R. Hall Field.
The Pioneer offense got on the board early plating three runs in the home half of the first inning. Krista DeBurger singled up the middle to score Madison Dorsey for the first run of the game. DeBurger swiped second putting her in scoring position, as Shelby Bailey stepped to the plate. Bailey sent a shot over the fence in left field putting the Pioneers up 3-0 early.
Pitcher Jamie Lutes was solid on the mound, retiring the first 12 Rose batters in order while not allowing a hit until the sixth inning.
It was Bailey again in the bottom of the third with a RBI single to score Megan Aebersold putting the Pioneers up 4-0.
The Pioneer offense struck again in the fourth as Rhyan Disser singled up the middle knocking in Miranda Mathews and Katie Hulsman to go up 6-0 and pick up their fifth HCAC win.
Lutes went the distance for Transy allowing only one hit and no walks while striking out four batters.
In game one, five runs from Rose-Hulman helped the Fightin' Engineers pick up a 7-6 win.
The Pioneers took a 2-0 lead in the first as Dorsey and Aebersold crossed the plate. Dorsey scored on an erred throw to first on a ball off the bat of Aebersold. Later in the inning, Bailey drove a shot to the gap in right center knocking in Aebersold.
Rose-Hulman evened the nod at two with a two-run homer from Jenny Miller. The score remained at two apiece until the home half of the fifth. With two on, Krista DeBurger doubled to right center scoring Aebersold and Lauren Willett as they Pioneers regained the lead, 4-2.
Rose-Hulman's offense put together a five-run sixth inning on four hits to take a 7-4 lead, before the Pioneers came to the plate in the sixth.
With two away and Hulsman on base, Lutes homered pulling Transy within one, 7-6, but the Pioneers could not plate another run.
With the split, the Pioneers are now 5-1 on the season in HCAC play. Transy travels to Manchester Saturday, April 18 for another HCAC doubleheader. Saturday's first pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
