Box Score 2 NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind.—The Transylvania University softball team dropped a pair of Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference games on Saturday by scores of 10-4 and 4-2 to the home standing Manchester University Spartans.
In game one, Manchester jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second but the Pioneers responded with four runs in the top of the second to take a 4-2 lead. Designated hitter Rhyan Disser singled up the middle and moved to third on a double from third baseman Elizabeth Young. First baseman Katie Hulsman hit a homerun to left field to score three runs. After a popout from pitcher Jamie Lutes, catcher Jessica Koors doubled down to left and moved to third on a single from Dorsey. Shelby Bailey walked and left fielder Megan Aebersold singled to score the fourth Pioneer run of the inning.
Transy was unable to score the rest of the game, however, and the Spartans added one run in the second, two in the third, two in the fifth and three in the sixth to take the first game 10-4.
Six Pioneers picked up hits in the loss, led by two each from Aebersold, Young and Hulsman, who had two each. Hulsman's three RBIs were a game-high for all players. Lutes picked up the loss on the mound, going six innings.
In the second game of the day, Transy picked up one in the first to take a 1-0 lead. Aebersold hit a one-out single and stole second and scored on a Bailey double with two-outs. Manchester picked up two in the bottom of the frame to take the lead.
The Spartans added singled runs in the second and third to take a 4-1 lead. The Pioneers got one back in the top of the fourth when second baseman Krista Deburger scored with one out. DeBurger led the inning off with a single up the middle and Bailey singled to left to put runners on first and second with no outs. Hulsman doubled to left center and scored DeBurger but a lineout double play by Young and ground out from pitcher Chelsea Pharris ended the Pioneer threat.
The Pioneers had six hits, with two coming from Bailey. Bailey and Hulsman each had one RBI for the Pioneers in the loss. Pharris got the loss for Transy, going six innings and allowing four runs, two earned.
